How to: Avoid emails being marked as “spam”.

When you send out an email, there’s always a chance of it being marked as spam. Some people just listed you guys as spam and presto, all your emails go there, anyway. Others, however, might never even see your emails at all, without any input from them whatsoever. So, how can you avoid being marked as spam?

What is spam?

To be able to avoid being marked as spam, you first need to know what even is spam. Spam is either unsolicited, undesired, or even illegal email messages.

So, how do I avoid being marked as “spam” then?

For starters, don’t send messages every day or even every week. People, myself included, get tired of clearing out our inboxes from deal to deal or message to message. Emails should be used sparingly and only when necessary.

You’ll also want to avoid phishing and trigger words and phrases. A lot of spam filters will try to automatically block certain emails if they contain a lot things like “Great deal!!” “Join now!” “Try our FREE…” etc.

You can also check out a spam checker online. There are some free options and some paid ones, but there are options out there to help you avoid being marked as spam.

Lastly, offer options to opt in or out of emails for customers and users. The last thing anyone wants when they join a site is to be bombarded by emails. Give them the option to opt out or in to emails and that way you’ll be less likely to be blacklisted as a spam account! If you do end up being blacklisted, there are options out there to help you get off it.
