Why blogs and articles shouldn’t be too long

If you’ve got a website or are planning on having one, you should know that creating content for it is one of your biggest jobs. You can’t just make an empty site and expect people to flock to it. People like to see things they haven’t seen before, read things they haven’t read before, and hear things they haven’t heard before.

If you want a successful website, you need to know how to create good content and one important part of that is to make sure your content isn’t too big.

Why shouldn’t it be big?

Believe it or not, there’s actually quite a few reasons you want short and concise content.

  1. It won’t bore the reader. Let’s be honest, we live in a world where you can get everything you want in less than a day. As such, people don’t want to spend 5 hours reading your article. Keep it concise and to the point while also remaining interesting.
  2. It won’t weigh down the page. If you’ve got an article 20,000 words long, it’s going to take a while to load fully for people. It might even break the page entirely. If you find your topic too long then break it up into multiple posts.
  3. It reduces views of your website. If you’ve got everything in a single blog, there’s no reason for anyone to view other parts of your website. This not only reduces traffic but also hits from search engines and commissions from ads.
  4. It just plain looks bad. Even if you add images here and there, it’s still a wall of text. Unless you’re writing a research journal or something highly analytical, try and keep that blog shorter.

How can I make it smaller?

There are many ways you can make your blogs smaller.

  • Split your article into multiple ones.
  • Remove unnecessary paragraphs.
  • Edit out sentences that are redundant.

Keeping your posts both readable and informative is never easy, but it’s definitely necessary. If you’re having trouble doing this, simply look around at other posts on similar topics to see examples of good, succinct writing.
