How-to: Resize/Add Pictures on WordPress

Adding pictures to a WordPress website can be tricky if you don’t know the proper way to do it. With a little help though, you can not only add pictures to blogs but even add images that will display along with the blog called a “Featured Image”.

Adding a picture to inside posts.

If you’re using the Blocks system in your WordPress then adding pictures is as simple as going to a new block (generally done by creating a new paragraph), clicking the little plus sign that pops up on the right side, and selecting “image”.

From here, you can upload a new image to add or select an image that’s already been added to your library. Yes, it really is that simple!

Adding a Featured Image to posts.

Adding a featured image is actually an important part of new posts. Not only does it give a quick and easy view of what your blog is about but it actually helps search engines determine what you website is about!

On the right hand side of your screen when you’re in a post, you should see a small menu with “Document” and “Block” categories. Go to “Document” and the image which is third from the bottom is labeled “Featured Image”. Descriptive, right?

From there, click it and you’ll be taken to your library where you can either upload a new file or use an already uploaded file.

Resizing your Pictures

Resizing is really easy to do, too! If you’re wanting to resize an image which you’ve just uploaded, simply find the image you want to resize in your image library, click it, and on the right hand side of the screen you’ll see a blue option labeled “edit image”. Click it.

From there you can easily edit the size of it, crop it, or a host of other things.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking to resize an image you’ve already uploaded, simply go to your media library on the left side of the screen, find the image, and use the same instructions from above.
